Stand-up paddle boarding is a great way to explore. About 40 minutes from my home is a wonderful lake. It isn't a boring blob/circle - it has fingers and little coves, and a good sized river with white water that pours into a narrow canyon. I've been to this same lake 4 times within the last 10 days and still want to keep going back.

I took a Friday off work and my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful day paddling around the lake. We enjoyed it so much, we came back the next day with the kids to make some great memories.

Part of what makes this lake so interesting is the presence of rocks and trees right down to the water's edge. The fact that no motors are allowed ensures a tranquil experience. One of my new favorite things is to lay flat on my back on the board and let the waves and breeze gently rock the board.

SUP travel is now a solid part of our microadventure list.
