I'm a big fan of southern Utah. Warm weather and some beautiful national parks go great together. The downside can be the crowds, like we experienced at Angel's Landing. So after eating a little too much to make the West Rim Trail sound appealing the day after Thanksgiving, we checked out a wonderful area near Yant Flats. No crowds, no signs to get there, parking for maybe 3 or 4 cars, and some fantastic sandstone. We left early and arrived at sunrise.
A hike of about 1.5 miles takes you to some fun scenery. Add just another mile or so and you get into some amazing places.
The rock wasn't the only thing with "texture."
The six of us had a great time climbing and exploring this breathtaking area and accumulated about 5 miles before we returned to the car. I will let the photos try to do justice to this memorable area.
The checkerboard pattern is interrupted in some places with beautiful swirls.
