Hike Your Own Hike (HYOH)
HYOH is something you will often see on backpacking blogs and hear people say.  It means Hike Your Own Hike.  That means that what works for me may not work for you and that is 100% OK.  This website shares what has worked for me.  I have figured that out (and am still figuring it out) by trying lots of things, failing miserably sometimes, and really being glad about a choice another time.
Only YOU will be carrying your pack.  Only YOU will be wearing your clothes, sleeping in your sleeping bag, etc.  I encourage you to learn from others (great way to avoid a lot of pain and suffering), but also to focus on the principles behind the information and apply those principles in a way that works for you.  Once you think you know what will work for you - test it out.  Try it in low risk situations (i.e., wear your clothing choice out in the rain in the backyard for a while, sleep outside in your backyard when it will be the same temperature you will experience on a trip).  Build confidence in your system and choices so when you are on your microadventure, you can focus on learning and having a blast, not suffering through bad gear or preparation choices.
